“The nature of nature is always dynamic… the only right thing to do is to stay curious within its beauty.” Roy Diblik’s knowledge and passion have something to offer every garden and every gardener in his “Becoming the Cultural Gardener” seminar presentation.
Roy Diblik, a noted plantsman and designer, has spent more than 40 years studying, growing, and enjoying plants. Roy pioneered the production of native plants in containers before he co-founded Northwind Perennial Farm, a nursery and design business in Burlington, Wisconsin. He has created many garden designs around the country including the gardens around the Chicago Art Institute and the old Stock Exchange Arch next to the Lurie Oudolf Garden in Chicago. Roy’s question has been and continues to be “how he moves from the awareness of plants living within their naturally inherent, healthy lifestyles to a genuine presence and practice of growing plants and designing plant communities that will flourish from youth into maturity.” He is the author of “The Know Maintenance Perennial Garden” described by Plant Talk as “…a veritable gold mine for gardeners,” available at Source Booksellers.
Annamaria Leon is the other half of this dynamic husband and wife team of experienced horticulturists. In her presentation “Permaculture and Beyond” she will discuss city gardens and how the garden revolution is sweeping Chicago. Learn the techniques of permaculture and how they can be applied in urban environments to provide a farm-to-table experience and diminish urban food deserts. Annamaria is an experienced nursery manager, urban garden advocate, and permaculture enthusiast. She is also a certified permaculture designer and teacher and co-founder of the Permaculture Chicago Teaching Institute. She focuses her community organizing efforts through projects that reflect her love of greening and beautification.
