“Come with us down the garden path to explore the charm and delight of heirloom irises.” We will trace the history of bearded irises from early species to modern cultivars and the mission to preserve historic irises. Also, learn about best care practices, new iris borer breakthroughs, plus tips and tricks to make iris care easier.
Cathy Egerer is the Past President and current Outreach Coordinator for the Historic Iris Preservation Society (HIPS), which is the largest sub-section of the American Iris Society. She raises endangered historic irises in her upper peninsula garden as part of HIPS preservation program. HIPS is “a group of folks from around the world who love and enjoy old irises and are striving to preserve them.” Gardeners everywhere are welcome to join in their efforts.
