“Arranging flowers and finding beauty in flowers – these are linked to a heart that values nature and cares for other people.” This is the spirit of Ikenobo and Ikebana. Learn to create your own Ikebana floral arrangement under the tutelage of sensei Cheryl Linck.
Ikenobō is the oldest school of floral art in Japan; developed in the 7th century from a priest’s floral offerings at the altar of a Buddhist temple. Ikebana is a modern style of Ikenobo in which freedom of expression takes precedence over classic rules. It aims to bring out the inner qualities of flowers and other live materials and express emotion, not unlike sculpture.
Cheryl Linck has been a practitioner of ikebana for many years and has demonstrated and exhibited her designs at the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. She is the past president of the Ikebana International Chapter of Detroit.
